What Are The 4 Rs Of Rapid eLearning?

Learner-centric eLearning solutions which offer scale and speed is the need of the hour, and rapid eLearning is the ideal solution. Rapid eLearning courses are based on performance-based learning objectives. They follow Instructional Design (ID) strategies and use authoring tools to deliver standardization. This facilitates the easy rollout of courses on multiple browsers and devices. Furthermore, rapid eLearning also makes the translation of courses quite quick and easy.

The 4 Rs of rapid eLearning are here to transform the existing conventional training material into a more interactive and engaging one for an enhanced learning experience.

Let’s take a quick look at the 4 Rs of rapid eLearning.

1. Redesign ILT To Online Learning

With the Redesign strategy of rapid eLearning, classroom training material can be used to get started with a wide range of online learning formats like Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT), eLearning courses, performance support job aids, and blended learning.

VILT is similar to a conventional classroom session with face-to-face training, but all done virtually. The instructors and learners join the session simultaneously but from different parts of the world. It is a perfect synchronous online training format offering maximum engagement through activities like polls, chats, whiteboards, breakout rooms, and more. Always remember that VILT is not a webinar or ILT session using a conferencing platform.

The classroom material is converted into eLearning courses as either stand-alone or a curriculum of courses. Stand-alone courses are self-paced, typically with a duration of 30 to 45 minutes, covering one topic comprehensively. They are designed with various Instructional Design approaches.

On the other hand, eLearning curriculums are configured into a set of small, stand-alone modules. These are usually sequential, where one module leads to the next. Completion of the eLearning curriculum leads to mastery of the topic.

ILT material is ideal for creating job aids in the form of microlearning assets such as infographics, how-to videos, comparison charts, eBooks, and so on. These are essential for boosting employee performance and providing learners with a continuous learning experience. Make performance support tools small and mobile-friendly and host them on a Learning Management System (LMS) to maximize their impact.

The Redesign strategy offers a plethora of benefits for both learners and organizations. For learners, it facilitates classroom-like interaction and collaboration through VILT. Furthermore, it provides a channel for direct communication with instructors and peers, as well as anytime, anywhere access to learning with no delays, reducing time spent by learners looking for resources or waiting for peers/supervisors.

For the organization, it decreases the expenses and logistics associated with classroom training. Allow instructors to meet and assist more employees without traveling, ensuring that employees are never without help.

2. Record To Save SME Time

Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) are high-profile professionals who find it challenging to review eLearning courses within timelines due to their hectic schedules. They review the courses on the go while at airport lounges, in hotel rooms, on flights, in cafes, or between appointments. So, the Record strategy comes in handy here and is a huge benefit for SMEs. Traditional eLearning requires SME involvement at a minimum of nine touchpoints, whereas rapid eLearning has only a five-step process with a maximum of three SME touchpoints. For this, SMEs create a quick and rough PowerPoint deck with their voice recording explaining all necessary details, which is then enhanced by the Instructional Design team by adding various elements, followed by an SME review. Finally, a rapid voiceover with professional narration is developed. Eventually, the final review by SMEs occurs, and the course is rolled out.

The Record strategy also has significant advantages for both learners and organizations. It provides the direct essence of the SME’s presentation to learners and includes anecdotes and war stories to engage the learner. For organizations, it saves SME time while also ensuring the technical accuracy of courses.

3. Rebuild Legacy Courses As Microlearning

The Rebuild strategy reconfigures lengthy eLearning courses into short and simple microlearning assets. Microlearning can enhance individual and organizational performance and act as a flexible learning approach. According to Markets and Markets research, [1] the market size of microlearning is expected to grow from USD 1.5 billion in 2019 to USD 2.7 billion by 2024.

The Rebuild strategy also offers beneficial features for learners and organizations. It allows learners to encode, retain, retrieve, apply, and transfer knowledge more quickly and is easily accessible on any device at any time and from any location.

4. Republish For Mobile Compatibility

Legacy courses are always of some use, even if they are obsolete and not compatible with mobile devices. The Republish strategy allows you to reconsider legacy courses piled up in your eLearning course archives and give them a new look while increasing their effectiveness and making them mobile-compatible. The Republish strategy allows you to use new authoring tools to upgrade legacy courses that were made with older versions of authoring tools (such as Storyline 2 and Captivate 11).

The Republish strategy, too, is beneficial, as it enables the migration of legacy courses to a newer version of the authoring tool with new interactivities and assessments and enables the update of content or branding. Furthermore, it redesigns the look and feel of text-heavy, visually unattractive courses and makes them mobile device-compatible.

To Wrap Up

The 4 Rs of rapid eLearning are ideal for improving employee performance and maximizing ROI. With the 4 Rs of rapid eLearning, you can be sure of achieving quality, scale, and speed in corporate training and becoming a champion.
